Life’s busy - so you probably missed some of my best stuff from my last editions

This is why I’ve curated my list of resources (so you can get all the value without the mindless scrolling).

Now let’s get back to today’s topic.

Ever tried explaining what your company does and ended up sounding like a 5-year-old describing quantum physics?

Yeah, been there.

But today, I'm breaking down, through one example, how we can build the brand narrative.

Let’s say I want to help the company “SafeSync” (a cybersecurity startup) to transform their story from "uh, we do security stuff" into a narrative that had investors and clients fighting to get in.

Let me show you exactly how we can implement brand narratives, element by element:

1) The Hero Sketch (Customer Profile) Old way:

Old way: "We serve small to medium businesses"

New way: "We serve high-growth fintech startups with 50+ employees who can't afford a security breach but also can't justify a full-time security team"

Pro tip: Get so specific that it almost feels uncomfortable. That's when you know you're onto something.

2) The Pain Cave (Problem)

Old way: "Security is important"

New way: "Every night, founders lie awake knowing they're one hack away from losing everything they've built. Their current solution? Crossing fingers and hoping for the best."

Key: Make it visceral. Make it real. Make it hurt.

3) The Magic Map (Solution)

Old way: "We offer cybersecurity solutions"

New way: "We've created 'SecurityGuard' - your virtual security team that costs less than one full-time employee but works 24/7"

Insider secret: Notice how we're not just solving a problem - we're painting a picture of a better world.

4) The Golden Promise (Value Proposition)

Old way: "We make security better"

New way: "From security being your biggest nightmare to your strongest competitive advantage in just 30 days"

Remember: This is your "from → to" statement. Make it bold but believable.

5) The Rebel Yell (Your Point of View)

Old way: "Security is complex"

New way: "Traditional security consulting is dead. Modern businesses need security that grows with them, not holds them back."

Truth bomb: If your stance doesn't make some people uncomfortable, it's not strong enough.

6) The Victory Flag (Positioning)

Old way: "We're a cybersecurity company"

New way: "We're the first growth-focused security partner that scales with your success"

Secret sauce: Find the gap in the market where no one's playing. Plant your flag there.

7) The Battle Cry (Core Message)

Old way: "Get secure now"

New way: "Stop letting security slow down your growth. Start using it to accelerate it."

This is where it all comes together - your story in one powerful punch.

Here's your 3-step action plan to implement your shiny new narrative:

STEP 1: The Story Mining Mission 🎯

First things first - let's dig out your hidden gems:

  • Grab a blank doc (or hey, use good old pen and paper)

  • Set a 20-minute timer

  • Answer these power questions:

    • Who's your absolute dream client? (Get silly specific)

    • What keeps them up at 3 AM? (The real stuff)

    • How do you solve this differently than everyone else?

    • What's the transformation you promise?

Pro tip: Don't overthink it! Your first gut reactions are usually gold.

STEP 2: The Quick-Win Makeover 💫

Time to give your existing content some sparkle:

  • Pick ONE piece of content (could be a LinkedIn post, email, or pitch)

  • Run it through our 7 elements

  • Rewrite it using your new narrative

Here's the fun part - I bet you'll immediately spot what's missing!

STEP 3: The Implementation Sprint 🏃‍♂️

Let's get this show on the road:

Monday: Craft your Hero Sketch

Tuesday: Define your Pain Cave

Wednesday: Map out your Magic Solution

Thursday: Write your Golden Promise

Friday: Plant your Victory Flag

Remember: This isn't about perfection - it's about progress!

To your story success,
